Andrew Knight, screenwriter for projects such as Hacksaw Ridge, Rake and Jack Irish, has been officially announced as the recipient of the 2017 Australian Writers’ Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award, commonly regarded as one of the industry’s highest honours.
Knight started his career writing for classic Australian comedy series such as The D Generation, Fast Forward and Full Frontal, and has since gone on to write for award winning series such as Rake, Jack Irish, and prestigiously recognised films such as Hacksaw Ridge, directed by fellow Australian Mel Gibson, in which Knight co-wrote.
AWG president and Oscar nominated screenwriter Jan Sardi commented, saying that it is impossible to overstate the impact and influence Knight has had on the Australian film and television industries and on our screen culture.
Knight will be presented the Lifetime Achievement Award by Bruce Meagher at The 50th Annual AWGIE Awards, which are being held in Sydney on 25th August 2017.
