Gaming peripheral manufacturer Turtle Beach launched a new series of wireless headsets this week. The Stealth 600 and Stealth 700 are bit of a funny combo, aiming to please those who value style and cord cutting ease of use and the high-end customer looking for excellent positional sound.
Fairly standard “hardware” sizzle reel aside, the list of features the Stealth 600 and 700’s are a mix of features that sound interesting on paper and those that most will consider the absolute baseline for a gaming headset.
While most PC players will their nose up at the mere mention of the word “wireless” in connection to a peripheral of any sort, the Stealth 600 and 700’s aren’t exactly aiming for them. They have console players in their sights instead. Both models can be connected directly to the Xbox One directly and used right away. PS4 owners will need to connect a USB dongle that comes in the box for the same effect.
If you want proper 7.1 surround on the PS4, you’ll want the 700’s and its DTS:Headphone:X functionality. The 600’s can do virtual surround and that may be enough for you, but for audio purists the choice is clear. The 700’s also feature active noise cancellation so you can tune out any background noise you don’t want, bluetooth connectivity with the new Turtle Beach Audio Hub app, and Dynamic Chat Boost to give your squaddies a bit of a bump when they get hard to hear. All of these extra features in a wireless headset come at a bit of a cost, of course, with the Stealth 700 boasting what TB says is up to 10 hours of battery life. How quickly you run them down will, of course, be entirely dependent on how many of the headset’s features you’re using. The 600 series boasts a few more with up to 15 hours which is down to its more sedate feature list compared to the 700’s.
Both the 700 and 600 models feature the brand’s now standard ProSpecs cans that let you wear your glasses while playing without discomfort, flip-up mics, a feature called Superhuman Hearing which sounds suspiciously like an EQ boost to provide more positional audio) and further audio presets and bass boosts.
The Turtle Beach Stealth 600 and 700 series is available now from JB Hifi and EB Games. The 700 series has an RRP of AUD$269.95. The 600 series will set you back AUD$169.95.
