Melbourne developer Big Ant are no strangers to including women’s teams in their cricket titles. Last year’s Don Bradman Cricket 17 also featured women’s cricket in prominent modes and the developer’s newest title, Ashes Cricket, is doing the same. Ashes Cricket will also go the extra step of authentically modelling popular, real world female players in the same level of detail as the game’s male players.
“Women’s cricket is rightfully growing in popularity across the world, and we wanted to do our part to highlight the incredible athleticism of the sport through Ashes Cricket,” says Big Ant CEO Ross Symons in a press release. “We’re looking forward to a thrilling competition between the women’s teams on the field this year, and we’re also looking forward to enabling gamers to decide the fate of their very own virtual Ashes.”
The women’s teams so far include both the Australian and England sides, and you can see examples of the models being used — that’s Australian medium-fast bowler Megan Schutt in the header image and England medium bowler Anya Shrubsole below.
Batswomen and bowlers alike have been brought in for full motion capture to properly and authentically convey the movement of each individual player on screen. There’s no word yet on which specific modes the women’s teams will be available in but we hope there’s a lot of them.
Shout out to Big Ant. More of this in our sports games please. Ashes Cricket releases in Australia on November 16 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
