The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) has announced the full list of nominations for the 7th AACTA Awards.
Leading the pack with 12 nominations is Oscar nominated and AACTA international Award-winning film Lion, followed closely by Blue Murder: Killer Cop and Top of the Lake: China Girl, which each hold 11 nominations.
Other nominees include television shows such as Australian Ninja Warrior, Rosehaven, Little Big Shots, Sunshine, True Story with Hamish and Andy, Seven Types of Ambiguity and online series such as The Katering Show and Rackaracka.
A record breaking 17 feature films have also received nominations this year, 5 of which are competing for the AACTA Award for best film; Ali’s Wedding, Berlin Syndrome, Hounds of Love, Jasper Jones and finally, Lion.
Keeping in the rhythm of breaking records, five productions have been nominated for the AACTA Award for Best Television Drama Series: Cleverman, Glitch, Janet King- Playing Advantage, Top of the Lake: China Girl and Wentworth.
This year’s nominations are also packed with Australia’s top talent, receive their first television or film nominations. Toni Collette, Anthony LaPaglia, Hugo Weaving, Tina Bursill and Emma Booth are all receiving their first television specific category nominations, having previously won AFI and AACTA Awards for feature film.
Also announced were the nominees for the AACTA Award for Best Online Video Series, a category which is experiencing a rapid growth of unique talent. The nominees include the International Emmy Award-winning interactive children’s show Doodles, the Melbourne Web Fest Award- winning drama series High Life, and YouTube hit shows Superwog and Rackaracka.
The winners will be announced across the two major 7th AACTA Awards presented by Foxtel events at The Star Event Centre in Sydney. The first of which is the Industry Luncheon, taking place on Monday 4 December, and secondly the AACTA Awards Ceremony taking place on Wednesday 6 December.
