Netflix has been leading the charge with many new tv series and films rolling off its production line and onto its streaming service for audiences. One of its most ambitious and expensive efforts Altered Carbon has been receiving rave reviews since its release on 2nd February.
The series, an adaptation of the Phillip K. Morgan novels, set in the future where the human consciousness and memories can be converted digitally and downloaded onto a “stack” at the back of the neck, to then be put into any physical body referred to as “sleeves”, has brought about a new form of near-immortality. The series follows Takeshi Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman), a former rebel and super soldier who is reawakened 250 years after his last sleeve-death and recruited by billionaire Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy) to solve a murder, that of Bancroft’s own. You can read our four star non spoilery review of the series here.
We sat down with Australia’s own Dichen Lachman, who stars as Reileen Kawahara, the sister to Takeshi Kovacs to discuss the show. We talk about it’s many and deep themes, the other badass women in the cast lineup and also the gender diversity on the show.
Altered Carbon Season 1 is available to stream right now on Netflix.
