The independently produced Australian film My Pet Dinosaur has cracked the Chinese Box Office Top 10, taking the number seven spot, grossing $870,000 USD on its first day of release. My Pet Dinosaur sits alongside worldwide blockbusters such as A Quiet Place, Avengers: Infinity War and Solo: A Star Wars Story.
My Pet Dinosaur follows the story of a young boy who accidentally befriends an experiment gone wrong, as his town is thrown into chaos.
My Pet Dinosaur director Matthew Drummond, commented on the news, saying “We have been absolutely thrilled with the box office result, which follows box office and VOD success for the film in other countries including Spain, Indonesia, Japan the UK and Russia”.
Megan Williams, Producer for Little Monster Productions also commented on the film’s success, stating “What a great result for Matt and the team, and a testament to the changing face of independent cinema produced in Australia. It really proves that Australian independent film production can, not only be sustainable but have great international appeal and hold its own against Hollywood studio productions.”
Pinnacle Films had obtained the domestic rights, while Empress Road Pictures are handling international sales, with deals finalised across the globe.
