Music Video of the Day: Soul Benefits Ft. Angel “Step Up” (2015)

Continuing the smooth, soulful vibes showcased on 2014 hit “Back in the Day”, western Sydney trio Soul Benefits have hit with their first official single since linking up with local label Big Village. “Step Up” once again taps into the lush, harmonic sound that fuels these three lyricists, bringing in a jazzy hook by 17 year old vocalist Angel, and a sample made famous by the likes of Grand Puba, Gang Starr, Pete Rock, and 2Pac.

The positive, self-reflective track is accompanied by a video created as part of the I.C.E (Information and Cultural Exchange) and Mt Druitt Street University program titled “Heart from the Street”. Directed by Raf Flores, the visuals were filmed at an open mic competition presented by Soul Benefits and Mt Druitt Street Uni at Westfield Mt Druitt, giving a platform for the spirit, diversity, and talent in the area.

“Step Up” is the first release from Soul Benefits’ debut album, expected early 2016 through Big Village. Watch the video below.
