The internationally celebrated Record Store Day is coming up next month, and has already uncovered rare unreleased tracks from the likes of Foals. Now, details have been revealed of Australia’s involvement in the celebration this year, which includes bringing on award-winning artist Ella Hooper as the 2016 ambassador.
Hooper, the youngest person and first woman in history to have received the APRA Songwriter of the Year award, put forth her excitement about the appointment: “I’m a lifelong fan of the independent record store experience and am thrilled to support the vital role that these stores still play in the music scene, as this year’s ambassador…I’ll be making a dash to a few of my favourite stores old and new on the day and maybe sing a few new songs along the way too. I can’t wait!!”
The day highlights the important role your local indie store plays in the music industry and it’s continual platform for musical discovery and exploration. No digital algorithm can match the experience and skill of a passionate music store staffer, so giving them a rightful celebration with a deluge of exclusive releases from artists around the world isn’t such a bad way to say thank you.
Last year’s Record Store Day was the biggest in Australia yet, and this year only seeks to top that with limited edition vinyls, CD special deals, live music, treasure hunts, BBQ’s, face painting for some reason, and more. This year, Record Store Day falls on Saturday 16th April.
Record Store Day in Australia is run by The Australian Music Retailers Association (AMRA and has the unqualified support of record companies and Australian music icons who know the importance of supporting indie music stores.
