As has been reported around the world this morning, legendary musician Prince – full name Prince Rogers Nelson – was found dead today at Paisley Park, his famous recording studio and estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Prior to the discovery the Carver County Sherriff’s Department was called to investigate a death at the estate, following which it was confirmed on TMZ to be Prince. He was 57 years old.
Earlier this month, reports circulated that Prince had been hospitalised after his jet made an emergency landing in Illinois, forcing him to cancel several scheduled concerts as part of his “Piano & A Microphone” Tour. Representatives for the artist reported to various outlets that it was a case of the flu.
The cause of death will no doubt be determined and reported on in the coming days, as will the outpouring of grief from around the world from family, friends, peers, and fans. There really are no words to describe just how immense Prince’s influence has been on not just music, but fashion, culture, and art. He will be missed and remembered as one of the most powerful and talented musicians in history.
Long Live The King.
