Atmospheric, enveloping and lush. Three words that can easily describe Ed Wells’ new single, “Swirl”. The latest piece of music from the Sydney songwriter blends some deep electronic production with a stunning vocal that builds with each lyric. In a similar vein to the likes of James Blake and Ben Howard, Wells’ uses the almost three minute run time of “Swirl” to conjure up a soundscape that pulls the listener in and refuses to let go.
A gorgeous soul quality comes through the folk/indie vibe of the tune too, no doubt largely thanks to Wells’ melt-worthy vocals.
In any case, this one is worth your time if you’re into some haunting, yet beautiful new music.
