Add this to Middle Kids‘ ever-growing list of accomplishments made in a short period of time – they’re off to Iceland! Named the winners of FBi’s Northern Lights Competition today, the band have won an expenses paid trip to Iceland to perform at Iceland Airwaves alongside the likes of PJ Harvey, Santigold and Of Monsters and Men, not to mention the opportunity to record at Sundlaugin Studio, owned by the one and only, Sigur Rós.
Upon their return to Australia, Middle Kids will then head into Sydney’s Studios 301 for three days of recording, mixing and mastering of the material they would’ve been crafting during their time away.
It’s been a hectic year for the breakout Sydney group, having only released their debut single, “Edge Of Town”, earlier this year. Since then, they’ve gone on to impress on the live front and have followed on from “Edge of Town” with their new baby of a track, “Your Love”.

Next week, Middle Kids will also play BIGSOUND for the first time, definitely one of the must-see bands on our list. They’ve commented on their competition win today, saying:
“We are extremely grateful to the amazing people at FBi for this opportunity. We feel the honour of being picked from this particular group of finalists, all of whom we admire greatly as wonderful artists. We can’t wait to go on this precious adventure together. We particularly plan to enjoy rocking out with our cousins from the North and working on our nature photography.”
Pretty sweet, huh?
As competition winners, Middle Kids have joined previous winners including LUCIANBLOMKAMP, Oliver Tank and Rainbow Chan. You can find out more about the competition, HERE!
If you’re headed to BIGSOUND, catch Middle Kids performing at Oh Hello! on the triple j Unearthed Stage on September 8th from 9:40pm.
