Katy Steele on what she hopes fans take away from her debut solo album, Human!

As we edge nearer to the release of Katy Steele‘s debut album Human, we find out some more about what the songwriter is hoping the record will showcase to fans and newcomers to her music alike. Having spent some time away from Australia in redefining her creative style away from Little Birdy, Steele returns with a collection of songs to serve as a perfect introduction to this new facet of her musicality.

“I just want it to be an introduction to me as a new artist, you know?” she tells us during our recent chat in Sydney. “I’m a completely different artist now, I’ve been through a lot. The songwriting is still very much me and where I began; there’s still that innocence and that simplicity to it. It’s the first of hopefully many records, so I’m excited.”

On the road this month with Human, Steele is excited to get back on stage and share the music with audiences before the album even drops.

“Bring it on! It’s a new phase; I’ve been away a while so I’ve got to do my hard work, but bring it on. …It’s basically the whole new record, you can hear it before it’s released, which is good. It’s pretty pumping, it’s pretty slick; it’s a tight set up, there’s three of us. Three in the band and me out the front; I don’t actually play any instruments for the live show now, so that’s kinda cool for me. I just get to strut around the front, which is fun.”
