The FOMO Festival begins its 2017 run in Adelaide at the historic site of the Adelaide Gaol tonight but make no mistake, this isn’t an event that will remain any type of locked up. With the likes of Desiigner, Peking Duk, Flosstradamus and more set to hit the stage, crowds down the east coast are in for one hell of a party over this first weekend of January.
Before we get to the events themselves, some fun facts about our line up for 2017. From the affordable nature of the now-iconic “Panda”, through to the ‘Most Trusted Guy in Rap’, find out some more about the FOMO artists headed to Brisbane and Sydney after tonight’s party in Adelaide.
DESIIGNER
You’d have been living under a rock if you’ve still not heard Desiigner’s hit, “Panda”, but did you know he bought the beat for a lil’ $200? Thanks to one of his mates, that beat was purchased online from British producer, Menace.
METRO BOOMIN
He’s only 23 years old, but ‘The Most Trusted Guy In Rap’ has enviable production credits to his name, including Kanye’s “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1 & 2”, Drake’s “Childs Play” and the Drake/ilovemakonnen joint “Tuesday”.
FLOSSTRADAMUS
Now known for their huge live shows, Flosstradamus’ beginnings were much simpler; the duo taught themselves how to produce by using YouTube tutorials and production forums. Also fun fact: Curt was on engineering, mixing and mastering duties when it came to Bauuer‘s “Harlem Shake”.
EMPIRE OF THE SUN
Fleetwood Mac‘s Lindsey Buckingham features on the duo’s latest record Two Vines, while of course, one of the O.G Empire of the Sun hits “Walking on a Dream” has enjoyed a resurgence in the States thanks to the Honda Civic.
JME
When he’s not doling out hard hitting grime beats, JME is also an avid Pokémon fan. You might’ve gotten the hint off his animated Poké-music videos, while he also offered fans a copy of his album Integrity on gold vinyl in exchange for mint condition Charizard cards.
GOLDLINK
Classifying his sound as ‘Future Bounce’, the producer first caught the attention of Rick Rubin off the back of his debut project, The God Complex. Pretty sweet company to be in, no? Rubin flew him out to his Malibu home and studio and the mentorship of sorts began there.
