While in Sydney recently, Larry sat down with singer songwriter Alana Wilkinson. She’s been impressing on live stages recently as she travels around the country doing her own dates and also sharing stages with the likes of Bob Evans and more.
She tells us about her current EP, available at live shows only – ensuring that human interaction with each purchase.
“They’re just a little collection of oldies; four songs that I’ve produced with a very dear friend of mine. They’re really simple. It’s just so that you leave my show with what you saw; you don’t leave with this big band, exciting thing, with trumpets and all sorts of things that I can’t play on my own! …They are for sale now, they’re $10 and are available at all the shows.”
Of her creative process, Alana walks us through the writing of some of her songs and the unique challenges they posed.
“The writing process and then getting to sing those songs is really exciting. You always go through waves; those waves where you cannot for the life of you, write a song, no matter how much you try. …I enjoy the ups and downs and when it does hit, just write and write and write; utilise that so when it doesn’t [hit], I’m not so twitchy, you know?”
“It’s a totally new way for my brain to create something, which is a thrill…I really enjoy finding different ways to write. It never happens the same way.”
