Meet Angie McMahon – Melbourne songwriter and winner of the 2017 Josh Pyke Partnership

The ever-talented Angie McMahon has taken out the 2017 Josh Pyke Partnership and we couldn’t think of a more worthy artist to fit the prize. She’s been pounding the pavement on the Melbourne music scene for a little while now; a charming and entertaining performer, the potential McMahon has displayed in recent months has been impressive to watch continue to reveal itself.

Clearly, it’s potential that struck Josh Pyke as well. As he points out, “Angie McMahon’s song “Slow Mover” was stuck in my head from the moment I heard it.”

The Josh Pyke Partnership celebrates its 4th year in 2017, the project established by Pyke and APRA AMCOS to aid unsigned musicians in receiving mentorship and funding that would help grow their career. For Angie, this means she’ll be helped in the studio and her foresight will be further recognised when it comes to new music in the works.

“I feel extremely lucky and very grateful to be given the opportunity to make the best debut record that I can make,” she has said. “I can’t thank Josh, his team and APRA AMCOS enough for putting their faith and funds behind my music. This is a huge and happy kick forward.”

As the recipient of the title this year, McMahon receives a $7,500 grant to help her out. In addition to the money, she will also receive mentorship from Josh, as well as meetings with Wonderlick Entertainment and Select Music.
