The Unsound Festival was one of the main drawcards of the Adelaide Festival program between 2013 and 2016 for many experimental music fans; the themed concert series drew music lovers in from around the country for its eclectic and unique line up, while on an industry level, Unsound enjoyed much critical acclaim during its time under the Adelaide Festival umbrella.
In 2017, Unsound steps out on its own and returns in November (16-19) as its own separate festival event. Curated under the direction of Unsound Artistic Director and co-founder Mat Schultz and former Adelaide Festival Director David Sefton, the globally recognised festival will take place across a range of venues in Adelaide, while a program of talks will also take place thanks to UniSA’s Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre. A huge sound art installation will also be created at the Botanical Gardens, a festival first.
“Unsound is a major new addition to the Australian arts landscape and unlike anything currently on offer,” Sefton has said. “The artistic success and massive popularity of Unsound was a personal highlight of my four Adelaide Festivals. I am therefore delighted to be abel to bring Unsound back as a stand-alone, fully-fledged festival in its own right. It really is back by popular demand.”
