Melbourne’s Saskwatch have linked up with the good folk at Headspace Australia to bring more awareness to mental health – particularly within the music community. The band themselves have had a cracker year; the release of Manual Override has seen Saskwatch well and truly thrust back into the national spotlight and with a national tour kicking off this month, the group is about to embark on a journey of concentrated experiences that, understandably, can take its toll.
Enter their new music video for “Finger Painting”. As songwriter Liam McGorry explains, the song is a personal one as it tracks his own struggle with anxiety and depression.
“The world is getting faster and louder, and I guess as someone who has always been an introvert and enjoyed their own space and silence, I’ve always felt extremely anxious and overwhelmed in any social setting. With “Finger Painting”, I wanted to juxtapose the feeling of anxiety and worry of the lyrics with a happy musical mask; a facade of everything being great…a bit of a classic Aussie trait.”
