It makes sense that Gotye‘s return to Australia would have to be with something a little special, no?
The musician has been announced on the 2018 MOFO line up with a premiere performance alongside the Ondioline Orchestra. Paying tribute to the late French electronic composer Jean-Jacques Perrey, Gotye has already been named as a program highlight of next year and well, fair enough. If you’ve been following his project online this year, you’ll know that what started as a curation project of Gotye’s, has now flourished into the live arena as well, taking Gotye and the Orchestra on the road in America.
Set to feature alongside Gotye at MOFO next year are the likes of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mayhem, Violent Femmes performing with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Brian Jackson with the Southern Gospel Choir, performing the songs of Jackson, Gil Scott Heron and Nina Simone.
“Mofo is a celebration of unique creativity and personal expression ranging freely across music, visual art, dance, spoken word, architecture, spas and more.” Mona Foma curator Brian Ritchie has said. “The messages range from pure abstract to blatant protest and a few stops in-between. Even the food, wine and beer are idiosyncratic.”
2018 will also see MOFO expanding, with major events being held across Launceston and Hobart, thanks to extra funding from State Government. Hobart remains the festival base, though folks in Launceston are able to be just as involved next January.
