Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever are currently eyeing up a surefire successful run at The Great Escape next week but today, one of Melbourne’s favourites have added more dosh to the bank as they have been announced as the latest winners of the Levi’s Music Prize.
Established to support BIGSOUND artists who have conjured considerable career momentum off the back of their festival appearance, the Levi’s Music Prize has already seen the likes of Alex Lahey and Stella Donnelly take away a $25,000 cheque. For RBCF, their showcases at BIGSOUND 2016 proved fruitful, with the band going on to sign with Sub Pop Records and of course, deliver their acclaimed EP The French Press in 2017.
“We are so grateful to have been chosen for the Levi’s® Music Prize.” the band has stated. “BIGSOUND provided the opportunity for us play a bunch of shows in front of music industry folks from around the world. Because of the conference we were able to secure a US booking agent and set things in motion for us to start touring our music. Because touring is not cheap, particularly for Australian bands, it is not easy for young artists to take their music on the road.”
The next round of entries for the Levi’s Music Prize is open now and will close on June 11th. Artists who have performed at BIGSOUND between 2013 – 2017 can apply here.
