Tassie duo SUMNER have become the latest emerging artist to be named the recipient of the Josh Pyke Partnership – an initiative established to help unsigned musicians receive mentorship and funding to further their careers.
The grant has given SUMNER a $7,500 grant to go towards their career, along with mentor sessions from Josh Pyke, Gregg Donovan (Wonderlick Entertainment) and Stephen Wade (Select Music).
The electronic duo have already had a hectic few months, supporting the likes of Alex Lahey (the 2016 Josh Pyke Partnership recipient) and Slowly Slowly and no doubt, with this boost behind them, the rest of 2018 is going to be safe to say, large.
“As always, judging the JP Partnership was a challenge as well as an inspiration.” Pyke has said. “This year’s bunch of entries was the most diverse to date with a lot more pop and hip hop on display, and the standard over all was excellent.”
“The winner this year is Sumner from Tasmania, a duo featuring really excellent production skills and evocative vocals. Their business plan was practical and achievable, and their future looks bright!”
