Live Review: Georgia Fields – The Famous Speigeltent (16.04.12)

Georgia Fields is generating what we silly gig reviewers like to blurt out as a buzz in the music industry. A sold out crowd probably isn’t a buzz however, it’s more a sound that can align itself with infatuation.

Georgia appears on stage in a beautiful gold skirt and colourful implements in her hair – much like a modern day pixie. She was backed by a crack band who added some wonderful harmonies to her pop that soared away into a swirling flock of wind. Her vocal dynamics are never overwhelming, but in some entrancing way, she catches the audience in her little hand disguised as a pair of vocal chords and flies us all around a adorable musical spectrum. Many of the songs being new material, there is a nice little peek into the progression of her music career.

The performance in itself was simply a wondrous aural experience which didn’t need any kind of familiarity with her material to get excited over. Georgia transferred herself from piano to guitar to keyboard doo-whakeey to the piano again with great ease and a musicality shone through over the audience. I couldn’t help but think Georgia’s versatility was something to be cherished and valued. Within this little version of a somewhat vaudeville circus tent, a packed out show witnessed vocal acrobatics.
