Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2017
It’s the largest cultural event in Australia and rivals some of the big comedy festivals around the world. It would be silly to not include this festival in the list. From huge names like Ruby Wax to local stars like Wil Anderson to new, fresh talent with amazing fresh ideas, there is more or less something for everyone. Patti Smith: In Her Own Words (Sydney)
In a rare solo appearance, Patti Smith will take to the stage to talk, read and sing from her acclaimed body of work. This is in addition to her last ever live musical performance tour in Australia. She looks to be focusing much more on her writing and creativity outside of music. But here, she will chat about her career that spans thirteen studio albums, visual arts, poetry and memoir writings she has already published.

An Evening with Eckhart Tolle (Australian tour)
Eckhardt Tolle is a health and wellbeing expert heading down here to give some lectures that has seen him become a #1 New York Times bestseller with his book The Power of Now as well as the highly acclaimed follow-up A New Earth. These books are widely regarded as two of the most influential spiritual books of our time, and it’ll be an interesting insight to finding your inner spirit. Along with his lectures, the tour finishes up with a weekend retreat on the Sunshine Coast.

A Rock & Roll Writers Festival (Melbourne & Brisbane)
This unique writer’s festival celebrates the relationship between writing and music for a second year. For the first time it will come to Melbourne as well. Our very own Editor-in-Chief Larry Heath will be there speaking in Brisbane with many other music journalists and writers. But along with those who write for publications, there will be songwriters, lyricists and commentators presenting talks and events.

The Sneakerheads Seasons (Perth)
Culture Juice, the Gallery’s new contemporary culture series, launches with the Sneakerheads season, a multi-dimensional celebration of sneaker culture, to coincide with the exclusive showing of an international exhibition The Rise of Sneaker Culture, featuring up to 150 brands in May.
The Sneakerheads season at the Art Gallery of WA lets audiences explore sneaker culture across design, sport, fashion and music through collaborations with the Curtin University School of Design, the Department of Sport and Recreation, WA Fashion Council, West Australian Music and iconic sneaker retailer Highs and Lows.

The National 2017: New Australian Art (Sydney)
This new collaboration between three of Sydney’s biggest art venues features work by emerging, mid-career and established Australian artists, showcasing new and commissioned work and encompassing a diverse range of mediums including painting, video, sculpture, installation, drawing and performance. This regular biennial event is aiming specifically on contemporary art up until 2021. The event is accompanied by an informative website with curational essays and writing on the artists and movements showcased in the program.

The World of Lego Exhibition (Melbourne)
After starting its run around Australia in Brisbane, Brickman’s The World of Lego is arriving down south at Melbourne Museum. More than 50 never-seen-before models are on display, taking visitors on a hands-on journey through history. Some of the models showcased include a giant Arc de Triomphe, Empire State Building with Kong Kong, Big Ben, a Leaning Tower of Pisa, and even Michelangelo’s statue of David all made from LEGO ® bricks!
