On January 15th, singer-songwriters Amanda Palmer and Missy Higgins will speak on motherhood, music, and artistry at a one-off event for the Melbourne branch of Alain de Botton‘s School of Life.
Both Palmer and Higgins have built their musical careers on going against the grain, boasting creative streaks that, Palmer at least, worried might be dampened by motherhood. Now both proud mothers, the two will come together to discuss their experiences, and the experiences of women the world over, in navigating the dated idea that women lose themselves in parenthood, and how differently (and often poorly) society treats people with children.
“I already couldn’t wait to sit down and talk with Missy about our mother and music experiences – and having the chat in front of everyone is just as good, if not better, than doing it in one of our kitchens. Shared knowledge is power, and this conversation will be no holds barred,” said Palmer.
Amanda Palmer & Missy Higgins on Motherhood, set to be both a celebration and a contemplation of the complexities of motherhood, will take place at The Astor Theatre, Melbourne, on January 15th.
