During September and October, Confluence – Festival of India will stage events across Sydney, showcasing some of India’s most exciting and interesting artistic cultures and traditions. The festival moves throughout Australia over a twelve week period, with Sydney dates running from mid-September.
A joint venture between India and Australia, the festival offers a unique opportunity to see some of India’s finest performers, artists, and thinkers.
Navdeep Suri, High Commissioner of India in Australia says: “From the Opera House in Sydney to Federation Square in Melbourne, from QPAC in Brisbane to the Festival Centre in Adelaide, from the Old Parliament in Canberra to the Concert Hall in Perth, the Festival of India will enthrall audiences, foster collaborations between our artists and create cultural bonds like never before. It will also provide a boost to tourism and to the art precincts in these cities. The ambition and scale of the Festival reflects the importance that India and Australia attach to a dynamic and vibrant relationship.”
Taking place at venues throughout the city, highlights of the Sydney run of events include:
- A performance by India’s best loved Odissi dancer Sujata Mohapatra
- A duet of sitar and Indian cello, featuring Pandit Shubhendra Rao and Saskia Rao-De Haas
- Piya Behrupiya, an adaptation of Twelfth Night from India’s Company Theatre
- Sriyah, presented by The Nrityagram Dance Ensemble
Festival goers will also be able to take part in Bollywood dance workshops and yoga classes.
Confluence – Festival of India will officially open with a gala event on Sunday September 18th, with events running from September 10th.
