dLux MediaArts invites you to join them for the third installment of IS THIS ART? a celebration of seventeen of Australia’s most innovative and experimental emerging media artists on a night not to be missed.
Taking over Marrickville’s Create or Die Warehouse space on Thursday, March 10, dLux will be showcasing the unexpected as part of The Sydney Morning Herald Spectrum Now Festival 2016.
This exciting evening of groundbreaking artistic festivities will allow you to meet luminaries such as, Dr Daniel Mudie Cunningham, Assistant Director and Head Curator at Artbank who will be leading a special guest tour of the selected works as well as offering the opportunity to meet the artists in person. Experience VJ Rory McKay’s explosive sound and light performance and listen as Denzel Sterling (DJ and founder of SIDECHAINS: Sydney’s growing night club event dedicated to showcasing the latest internet spawned micro-genres) spins fresh tracks all night.
Now in its third year, IS THIS ART? is a groundbreaking international program initiated by dLux MediaArts, which continues to grow as a critical platform to showcase the best new video and interactive artworks. “We wanted to bring to the public a true picture of the increasingly diverse media arts space. We’re seeing more and more enthralling works from single-channel videos to audio installations, oculus rifts and robotics to vivid projections and more,” says Giorgia Gakas, curator and touring coordinator of dLux.
Host of the event will be dLux Chair, Omri Godin who stressed the need for organisations like dLux MediaArts to continually nurture Australia’s vibrant arts scene. He says, “We have outstanding artistic talent so it stands to reason that the National Innovation and Science Agenda ought to justly embrace the creative and cultural sphere as much as it does our technological advancement”.
Always keen to bolster the exposure of young and emerging artists to new audiences, Tara Morelos, Director of dLux, emphasised the community sector and new charitable objectives of the organization; “We have to step up our efforts to fill the gap between government support and what the community needs to flourish; artistic vibrancy. Advancing the efforts of young and disadvantaged artists is part of our ethos”.
