Copeland made the journey to Sydney to launch her new collaborative collection with Under Armour which is fashion-forward, transformative and transitional, celebrating her undeniable drive and unmistakable style.
Why have you chosen to collaborate with Under Armour?
As an Under Armour athlete it’s an exciting feat to have a personal range. I’m really interested in clothes and love to see everything in my wardrobe! I love feminine pieces, of course, but I also love structured trendy items too. The fact that I could incorporate this into a collection of both activewear and leisurewear, whilst pushing the boundaries in design – for instance, the Misty Metallic Anorak – was great. I am excited about the new UA Inspired by Misty Copeland collection and seeing how Australian women choose to style and incorporate these pieces into their wardrobe.
What is the inspiration behind the range?
My inspiration for the UA Inspired by Misty Copeland collection was ensuring that each garment reflects my personal style (bright, glam, and flattering), whilst still providing the performance benefits needed for training and that you can expect from Under Armour. The collection includes styles that I love to have in my closet and wear, whether I’m out on a date with my husband, to and from rehearsals, or with my friends out on the town. I love the Misty Hi-Rise Legging from the new collection – they’re flattering, fit like a second skin, and the stretch means they move with me in all directions needed – plus they look great!
Have you taken into consideration that “studio to street” style flexibility when creating this collection?
Yes, absolutely! This range is so diverse and there is something for everyone – whether it’s the Misty Leather Jacket, the Misty Metallic Jogger or the Misty Strappy Bralette Print – each garment is flattering for all figures and is stylish gym-to-street wear.
What is the #1 piece of activewear every woman should have in their wardrobe?
Every woman should have a pair of high waisted leggings because they look great, they’re flexible and can be worn for anything and with anything. The Misty Hi-Rise Legging was an important piece to include in the UA Inspired by Misty Copeland collection.
What is your go-to piece of activewear?
I love high waisted leggings and my current go-to’s are the new Misty Hi-Rise Legging from the UA Inspired by Misty Copeland collection. High waisted leggings are perfect for pretty much any workout including running, Pilates or barre class.
