It was just like any other Sunday evening as I sat in the audience of the Palms theatre at Melbourne’s Crown Casino. However, on this particular evening, two men were about to walk onstage, throw off their cloaks, and perform for a paying audience the ‘ancient art of genital origami.’
For those a bit slow to the party, we were about to watch two naked men twist, flatten, and pull their penises so that they resembled a variety of objects, thus resulting in outrageous applause. Now, a lot of you may be thinking, why pay for that, that’s just a normal Saturday night! However these well-endowed gentlemen were highly skilled and have honed their craft over many years – 20 to be exact! From humble beginnings, they are now renowned worldwide with all manner of demographic coming to see their show. Although the emphasis is undeniably definitely on the wangs, there is also a really nice mixture of comedic routine thrown in which gives the show a bit of spice. Their ideas are quirky and play on current political and celebrity trends, and the gentlemen themselves have really lovely stage personas.
It was for these reasons that the show ran very smoothly, with comedic banter very much appreciated. The tricks were creative, and the nervous laughter heard at the beginning of the show was soon replaced by hysterical laughter as the audience relaxed with the fact they were watching two grown men fiddle with their junk. The classic tricks like the hamburger and wristwatch made a well-appreciated appearance, however, no one was prepared for ‘The Donald Trump!’ I’ll leave it to your imagination to work out what that trick involved.
The Kim Kardashian was a favourite of mine. A photo of her from that famous nude shoot was poised on top of a set of testicles, making them look like her giant derriere. Not sure Kanye West would call her ‘the most beautiful women in the world’ if he saw that! The shy sea urchin was another favourite. I couldn’t even begin to describe it if I tried, let’s just say the little guy was hesitant at first, but with a bit of encouragement he definitely warmed up to the audience.
Puppetry of the Penis is without a doubt one of those shows that you have to see for yourself. As much as someone tries to describe for you all the ways a man can transform his dingaling, it really is best seen first hand (no pun intended).
