The Northern Territory presents in its second year, Parrtjima – A Festival In Light. The magnificent free public event showcases the oldest living culture through the newest technology, illuminating 2.5 kilometres of the McDonnell Ranges, a 300-million-year-old canvas, plus more from Friday 22nd September to Sunday 1st October in Alice Springs.
The showcase is an expanded program from its first showing last year, which attracted up to 16,000 people.
Andrew Hopper, General Manager of Northern Territory Major Events Company has cited Parrtjima as a great boost for tourism in the Top End. “This is an exciting announcement for Central Australia; the festival is a wonderful boost for the tourism industry, the local economy and it creates jobs for locals,”
Parrtjima aims to celebrate the magnificent Aboriginal art of Central Australia and showcase it in a unique display of light and colour. “Created in partnership with local Aboriginal artists and art centres, the event aims to raise the profile of Aboriginal artists from Central Australia by sharing their outstanding work and rich culture with the world,” Mr Hopper said.
Parrtjima – A Festival of Light is on in Alice Springs from 22nd September until the 1st October. For more info head to www.parrtjimaaustralia.com.au
