Staged on the set of Kinky Boots at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney, the 17th Annual Helpmann Awards Ceremony will feature a vast array of high-profile hosts, talent and performances when it airs live this July.
This years premier celebration of Australia’s live performance industry will showcase performances from the musical My Fair Lady with Reg Livermore, Disney’s Aladdin, The Book of Mormon, Kinky Boots and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical featuring Dami Im and Esther Hannaford. The Living End’s Chris Cheney and Grinspoons’ Phil Jamieson shared the spotlight of being the lead actor in American Idiot during it’s Brisbane run, but the Helpmann Awards have announced that both actors will be on-hand to perform “21 Guns”. Viewers can aslo expect to see the Sydney Children’s Choir present a piece by Sally Whitwell titled “Lux Aeterna” for the In Memoriam and Marcia Hines will close the nights ceremony with a performance of the cabaret circus hit ‘Velvet’.
Executive Producer of the Helpmann Awards, Jon Nicholls has teased “this is the largest group of performers we have ever had at the Helpmann Awards, it certainly promises to be the live performance industry’s night of nights.”
Host and presenter duties for the evening appear to be shared by the newly, and lengthy announced: Queenie van de Zandt, Tim Draxl, Brooke Satchwell, Trevor Ashley, Garry Stewart, David McAllister AM, Stephen Page AM, Richard Mills AM, Emma Mathews, Lyndon Terracini AM, Deborah Hutton, Kate Mulvany, Charles Edwards, Jimmy Barnes AO.
The 2017 Helpmann Awards will be broadcast live on Foxtel Arts and webcast free via www.foxtelarts.com.au.
