Following the teased release of two works earlier this month; Perth’s Blue Room Theatre has now released the complete line-up for their April – July season.
Comprised of seven shows the season aims to make audiences contemplate survival in all it’s forms; and hopes to prompt and embolden theatregoers to be self reflexive, to look at themselves and the world around them in new ways.
These seven shows come from established and emerging theatre-makers, some who have produced work at the Blue Room before, and others who are entering the space for the first time.
Tickets to all seven shows are now on sale and range in price from $18-$28.
April – July Program
12 – 30 April: Selkie (Renegade Productions) is a provocative work scrutinising love, cultural appropriation/exploitation and domestic oppression; written by Finn O’Branagáin (The Epic) and directed by Joe Lui (Letters Home).
19 April – 7 May: The Mars Project (The Skeletal System) asks audiences how much they’d sacrifice for the chance at a new life. Directed by Will O’Mahony, the show is from the award winning team behind 2013’s smash hit Great White.
10 – 28 May: Belated (Maiden Voyage Theatre Company) is a debut work from an exciting new company. Directed by Emily McClean (Dust, Fat Pig) Belated is a gritty tale of friendship and forgiveness, exploring the lengths we’ll go for the people we love.
24 May – 11 June: HART (She Said Theatre) hits the Blue Room stage following highly successful seasons in Melbourne, Auckland and Adelaide. Using testimonials from the Stolen Generations, Noongar man Ian Michael invites you to listen in on the silenced stories of this country.
7 – 25 June: What’s Love Got To Do With It? (The Cutting Room Floor) is Rachael Woodward’s directorial debut, a fast paced satirical exploration of love and loss, set in a pharmaceutical company’s boardroom just as they’re on the brink of releasing a cure for love.
21 June – 9 July: The Astronaut (Samantha Chester) is an intimate tale that looks at the choices we make and the seemingly impossible task of letting go. The Astronaut is a solo physical theatre piece, and marks the Perth debut of WAAPA movement lecturer Samantha Chester.
5 -16 July: Hobo (Jeffreythecat Productions) returns to the Blue Room after a short stint as part of the Summer Nights, with a full length production during NAIDOC week. It’s raw, crude and packed with humour and takes a good long look at what it means to be a man in the age of identity crisis.
