Flying candy, endorsement of cheating and a few life lessons – and that’s just in the first 10 minutes – The Miss Behave Gameshow is hands down the most entertaining night out I’ve had in a long time. In fact, stop reading, jump over to the Sydney Opera House website and grab yourself some tickets now because once word gets out about this show, you’ll be hard pressed to get tickets, and frankly I don’t want to be held responsible for that kind of disappointment.
Miss Behave – the satirical and quick – witted Amy Saunders – is hilarious. If I knew of a word that meant funnier than hilarious, I’d use it. London’s cabaret queen plays off the energy of the crowd, and not unlike a comedy gig, you can and will be heckled. But that’s half the fun. The other half is made up of amusing and completely eccentric games which will earn you points – but only if you really want it.
The room is divided down the middle based on your mobile device – iPhone or “other” – and points are awarded for almost anything really – even just asking for it. Games such as ‘shout the loudest’, ‘where are you from’ and ‘name that song’ see audience members screaming, dancing and jumping on chairs. Perhaps one of the most entertaining moments was the bonus round where the audience was encouraged to throw rubbish at Saunders as she danced. Then points were awarded for cleaning it up. Innovation and initiative were encouraged – the mantra of “if you don’t ask, you won’t get” was prevalent throughout the evening.
At certain points in the evening, Miss Behave’s sidekick Tiffany would perform and his circus abilities were amazing. Separately, they were side-splittingly funny, together – I had genuine concerns wine might come out my nose.
A few words of advice – if you are in any way shy – this is not for you. The evening is very participatory. That being said, you don’t have to participate if you don’t want to but it does enhance the experience if you really throw yourself into it. Take a big group of mates – because you’ll be more inclined to act like a fool if you all do it together. Definitely have a few drinks before, during, and probably after – this will help you to both get more involved and then forget whatever you did afterwards. Go into it wanting to have fun – this is no place for party-poopers.
The Miss Behave Gameshow is brilliant. A rather simple idea and modest staging, brought to life by the unbelievable talent of Saunders and Tiffany – oh and the mad monkey from New York… (you’ll see). I can guarantee it won’t be what you expect and in a world where every day seems to be a ‘same shit, different smell’ scenario, originality and a genuine, old fashioned good time should be celebrated and remembered.
Oh, and in case you were wondering – the iPhones won.
