Taronga Zoo is getting a photo exhibition dedicated to Aussie birds

Taronga Zoo is shifting into a space of contemporary art, offering a wild lens into the relationship humans have with birds through an outdoor photo exhibition. QBE Muse @ Taronga is the stunning photographic work of artist and wildlife advocate, Leila Jemarks. Running from the 1st to 30th November 2017, the exhibition celebrates the 20th anniversary of the QBE Free Flight Bird Show.

Jeffreys’ photographic works capture birds with impeccable timing, patience, artistry and technique through her mastery of the camera. Some of the birds are  Taronga Zoo residents and can be seen off the canvas as stars of the QBE Free Flight Bird Show.

“It is an honour to be part of QBE Muse @ Taronga as I am taking artworks out of the gallery and placing giant prints of birds amongst such a beautiful setting where the real subjects can be visited,” Ms Jeffreys said.

“This is a combination of art and conservation which I hope helps us all connect with, and learn more about these exquisite beauties.”

The vision of the photo series is to create a narrative that reaches beyond the creative genius of the lens. It aims to start a conservation conversation about ‘the wild’ and our relationship with wildlife and the responsibilities that come with this.

“Australia is gifted with some of the world’s most spectacular and unique birds…There is something very magical about bringing their stories to life through the lens of renowned artist and photographer Leila Jeffreys, ” Elle Bombonato, Unit Supervisor of the Australian Presentation Precinct said.
