Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will become the 12th entry in the popular stealth action series.
Ubisoft announced Valhalla this morning via an art stream hosted by artist Bosslogic, real name Kode Abdo. The game moves the series from the isles of Ancient Greece seen in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey to somewhere more Scandinavian.
Fans have been requesting a Norse theme as far back as Assassin’s Creed 2. The setting has regularly appeared on lists of desired locations and historical periods for a decade. The only setting fans seem to desire more than this is feudal Japan.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was leaked earlier this year by an anonymous user on 4chan. While the leaker didn’t get everything right, including a big whiff on the title (they claimed it was titled Ragnarok, though that may have been its internal project name), they certainly picked the setting.
Ubisoft themselves teased the game in The Division 2 in April last year. Players who entered the Potomac Event Centre found an exhibition called Valhalla that featured art of a viking warrior seemingly holding the Apple of Eden, a prominent artefact in the AC universe. This tracks with Ubisoft’s longtime habit of sneaking teasers for upcoming games into new releases.
Ubi says a full reveal is coming tomorrow, May 1st. We’ll be sure to keep you posted.
