Blizzard have announced Diablo 4 at BlizzCon 2019. Marking a return to the series grimdark, gothic horror roots, the publisher debuted both a cinematic trailer and a quick look at gameplay.
The game’s look has clearly been inspired by Diablo 2, taking a sincere and “reverent approach” to design. There’s no changes to POV or genre. Diablo 4 is an isometric action RPG like every other entry in the series.
So far, Blizzard have been happy to talk about three of the game’s classes — Barbarian, Sorceress and Druid — though did mention that they were pulling from a “classic” lineup of heroes, indicating that classes like the Paladin and the Amazon may still be on their way.
The whole thing seemed to thrum with dread, and we think fans will be very pleased with what they see.
Diablo 4 is coming to Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which means we’re likely looking at a 2020 release prior to the launch of the PS5 and next Xbox.
