CATCH A RIDE (to the cinema)! Borderlands is getting a movie adaptation

Variety reports that Lionsgate are developing a film based on Gearbox’s popular first person shooter series Borderlands with Marvel producers Avi and Ari Arad.

Borderlands first launched back in 2009 and has spawned a sequel and a prequel, Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, in addition to an in-universe adventure series from Telltale, Tales from the Borderlands. The lawless science fiction shooters are set largely on the planet Pandora.

Avi and Ari Arad are known for producing various non-Marvel Studios films X-MenGhost RiderBlade and Spider-man. The move marks another move towards video games after making Nerdist Industries CEO Peter Levin president of interactive ventures and games.

Recent job listings on their site suggest that Gearbox continues to quietly work on a new Borderlands game as well as their new multiplayer title,  Battleborn.
