A new Diablo 4 trailer has debuted at BlizzConline 2021, Blizzard Entertainment’s fully online fan convention.
It’s been over a year since Blizzard first announced Diablo 4 to a hungry community. Following the game’s announcement, news became quite scarce. The team put its collective head down and went to work.
Anticipation for Diablo 4 is high. Its been years since the venerable RPG series has seen a new iteration of any sort. Its predecessor, Diablo 3, is considered one of Blizzard’s most visible bastard children. At the time of its release, Diablo 3 leaned into a design similar to the company’s then-dominant MMO World of Warcraft. That wasn’t what Diablo fans wanted. At all. And they were quite vocal about it, so much so that Blizzard later rebuilt the game, launching a 2.0 version that attempted to remedy fan complaints. For many, the damage was already done.
That’s where Diablo 4 comes in. Its primary, stated goal is to create a modern interpretation of the design and systems that made Diablo 2 so memorable. From the look of the trailers released today, Diablo 4 moves the needle back toward the crunch and stat management of D2.
The new Diablo 4 trailer announced a new class: the Rogue. THis is the first time the Diablo series has had a rogue character int he mix. She is high mobility, and deadly at close range and a t a distance. Arrows, knives and not getting hit are the order of the day.
Diablo 4 does not yet have a release date. It is coming Windows PC.
