Summer Games Fest 2023 is charging forward with a huge presentation from Ubisoft covering games and TV shows from the studio for the next 12 months. While most of the focus was on Avatar : Frontiers of Pandora, there were quite a few surprises here as well. We have been patiently waiting (since yesterday!) for gameplay footage from Star Wars : Outlaws and it did not disappoint!
Just Dance is now an Olympic Sport
You read it correctly, opening the show is a look at Just Dance 2024 Edition with some new songs like Flowers by Miley Cyrus but also to let us know that it is now an official esport of the Olympic games. Watch the trailer below.
Avatar : Frontiers of Pandora
We have all been anxiously awaiting to see if this game looks like its going to be good and fortunately that answer is yes. The huge open world that allows for exploration and fits in between the first and second movie as introduced by director James Cameron is a great sign of what this game could be. The visuals were stunning and fortunately we don’t have to wait too long to get our hands on it. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora releases December 2023.
XDefiant puts the community first
In a showreel that had livestreams from players from the closed beta showing the multiplayer shooter, the studio is ready to open the game up to an open beta June 21 to June 23. The game is said to launch later this year on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Ubisoft are hoping to relaunch the Price of Persia franchise in January 2024 with The Lost Crown. It has been quite some time since the last (good) Prince of Persia game and a complete overhaul with an emphasis on platforming in a semi-open world seems like the right way to go. We saw some great in-game footage and some CGI stuff that only made the hype real.
Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix
Remember all those Ubisoft Netflix shows and movies that are in the works? Well one is finally on the way with this mash – up from Adni Shankar (Castlevania) with a new anime show called Captain Laserhawk. It is based in the Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon world but is said to be bringing some remixed Ubisoft characters into the world.
The Division Resurgence: Tactial Action
When this CGI trailer started I was initially excited and all revved up for a new Division game, however, this one is the mobile version for IOS and Android. The spin-off showed a couple of small clips of gameplay footage that looked clunky and hard to control. You be the judge in the trailer below.
Skull & Bones
No sign of a new launch date or new footage, instead Ubisoft had a live song played while announcing a beta from August 25 to August 28. Seems like they really don’t care about this game.
The Crew Motorfest
A brand new entry in the series is set on the island of O’ahu in Hawaii. This Forza Horizon-looking game will allow you to import your vehicles from previous games in the series (for free!) If not you can start your collection of various vehicles in varying terrains for a game that looks to sink hours and hours of my time. Can’t wait!
Assassin’s Creed Nexus
Playing as a hero in VR, striking from above with hidden blades, traversing over rooftops and swinging between buildings sounds extremely nauseating in VR, but this trailer with rendered footage looks like it could be a lot of fun and worth booting up your Meta Quest 2 for.
Assassin’s Creed Jade
This is the first Assassin’s Creed mobile game and looks to be an easy title you can pickup and play without any prior knowledge. This adventure is set in China and while we didn’t see a whole bunch of gameplay footage, you can register to participate in a closed beta for IOS and Android.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Like we need another huge open-world game to suck up our time in the second half of this year? Well Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to take that mantle with an expansive open world set in Baghdad. We got a new cinematic and gameplay trailer that only built around the hype for this game.
Star Wars: Outlaws
They say, always save the best for last, and boy did they ever! The industry has been buzzing since the announcement of the first open-world game set in the Star Wars universe at the Xbox Showcase yesterday, the team at Ubisoft showed us some actual gameplay footage which appeared to blend seamlessly from CGI to game with an impressive palate and pace for this upcoming title. The game is set to launch in 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

And that’s a wrap! Ubisoft bought the goods this year with some impressive gameplay both in-game and CGI trailers showcasing the huge range of titles coming to gamers this year and beyond. Getting our first glimpse of Pandora in the Avatar game was worth the wait, showing the companies willingness to dive into the mobile gaming space and shows on streaming services like Netflix highlights the diverse nature of Ubisoft.
