Gamescom 2015: New Final Fantasy XV trailer heads 15 years into the past

Square Enix have debuted a new trailer for the next installment in their venerable RPG franchise, Final Fantasy XV. It takes us back in time 15 years to a crucial point hero Noctis’ past.

Called DAWN, the trailer teases the game’s story and deals with the bond Noctis had with his father King Regis prior to the beginning of the game (or, indeed, the playable demo we spent time with earlier in the year). Their relationship will be tested as a growing war between their kingdom and the Empire creates friction. No gameplay in this one, sadly, but the cinematic work on offer is remarkable, reflecting Square Enix’s typically high standards for game cinematics.

No release date has been announced as yet but we do know that the game will come to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when it does finally arrive.
