Gfinity Elite series “more successful than initially hoped”, pushes halfway into Season 2

If you’re into the eSports scene in Australia, you’ve probably heard of the Gfinity Elite Series, hosted by Alienware.

If not, here’s a quick rundown – it’s a competitive series running games of Rocket League, CS:GO and Street Fight V, to seek out and identify potential pro players that could use some sponsorship and be brought onto a team.

“Though it can be a challenge, allowing players to dive into the deep end of esports and play with ANZ’s best is an opportunity rarely given. Developing their skills in an ecosystem like this allows plenty of room to improve and learn from more seasoned players” a spokesperson for the event has said, also claiming the series has proven to be “more successful than initially hoped”.

“Rookie and newly drafted players now regularly sit side by side with the pros: more than a third of players that have played in Season 2 were drafted players, with some teams comprised entirely of draftees.”

In Australia, we’re currently at the halfway point of the series, and it’s heating up; Melbourne’s CS:GO team Avant has stayed at the top undefeated, with the Deceptors tied at second with a single loss.

The series has proven to be incredibly popular – the Street Fighter V series has amassed 7,200 views on Twitch just last weekend, and following on from Seven’s coverage of the Overwatch League last year at the Opera House, the series is also televised – you can watch the Rocket League tournaments on 10 Peach, recently re-branded from Eleven.

Given the popularity of the series, we’re likely to see it pushed into the next year, as per a statement by the CEO of Gfinity eSports, Dominic Remond.  “There’s plenty more to come in 2019 and beyond, and we look forward to continuing to deliver some of ANZ’s finest esports competition to the community.”

Given the sponsorships the series has racked up, rubbing shoulders with Logitech and Alienware, it’s moree than likely it’ll be around for a while.

If you’d like to get amongst it and watch it, you can see the Rocket League tournaments on 10 Peach after 11AM on sundays, you can watch all matches at https://www.twitch.tv/GfinityAU , and you can buy live event tickets from the official website here.
