Microsoft Flight Simulator‘s World Update 6 to expand world again

The hotly anticipated Flight Simulator DLC, World Update 6, is coming in early September.

With Microsoft Flight Simulator releasing on Xbox’s next-generation consoles last month, a whole new group of enthusiasts have been sinking their teeth into one of the best iterations in the long running series, with incredible visuals and clever controller functionality. But it doesn’t end there.

This morning’s Xbox Gamescom Showcase brought the goods. Flight Simulator’s World Update 6 is set to expand the German, Austrian and Swiss regions with new cities, more accurate alps and greater overall detail, with an extra 100 famous landmarks spread throughout the expansion. The update will also bring a number of aerial legends to the fold, with today’s trailer showcasing multiple new and enhanced airports from Basel in Switzerland to Vienna in Austria.

It’s also worth noting that PC players are set to be treated to some nifty graphical upgrades in World Upgrade 6 as ‘offscreen terrain pre caching’, which will allow assets and landscapes to pre-load ahead of time, in turn improving frame rates and texture pop-ins when scanning your surroundings.

A licensed Top Gun Maverick tie-in was revealed a couple of months ago, which will launch at the end of the year to coincide with the release of the film. If the need for speed wasn’t enough, the Reno Air Race will also launch later this year, pitting you and your friends against each other in some of the most famous race planes on the planet. That’s right; Microsoft Flight Simulator will include competitive multiplayer.

The Microsoft Flight Simulator World Update 6 will now release on September 7, after Xbox Game Studios recently made the decision to delay the update slightly from its original August 24 release date.
