Nintendo is releasing a refreshed 2DS console and we’re into it

The original version of Nintendo’s 2DS console was designed to be a viable and cheaper alternative to their pricier and, at the time, more headache-inducing 3DS console.  Through a combination of unattractive design  and percieved inferiority to the 3DS, it never set the world on fire in the way its cousin and numerous forebears had. It seems Nintendo wants to change that.
No longer a one-piece unit, the New Nintendo 2DS XL borrows the sleeker, foldable design of the New Nintendo 3DS XL. It retains the computation grunt of its 3DS stablemate, as well its updated control suite and its compatibility with the entire Nintendo DS and 3DS library of games.

The announcement of the new handheld came with the announcement of a pair of new games: Hey! PIKMIN (that’s not a typo, it’s really stylised like that) is a 2D side-scroller, a first for the traditionally strategic series, and Miitopia which feels like a Mii-focused version of something like Animal Crossing with a few more traditional video game elements thrown in. Use your own Mii or start from scratch.

The New Nintendo 2DS XL drops on June 15 (that’s right after E3 for those of you playing the home game) and will retail for AU$199.
