Paris Games Week 2017: The Last of Us Part II gets a brutal new trailer

Sony have unveiled a brand new trailer for Naughty Dog’s upcoming The Last of Us Part II during their Paris Games Week media conference. The trailer is curiously devoid of any appearance by series heroes Ellie or Joel, but does feature another popular Naughty Dog player. It is also not for the squeamish.

The trailer features a raft of new characters like Lev (played by The OA‘s Ian Alexander), Yara (played by Victoria Grace) and Emily (played by Supernatural and Castlevania‘s Emily Swallow). The fourth character, an unnamed but incredibly fit woman captured in the trailer by Emily and freed by Lev and Yara, is played by your video game bae and mine Laura Bailey (Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Gears of War 4). Bailey, a gifted voice and mocap actor, is fast becoming a fixture at Naughty Dog. The developer was so impressed by her performance as PMC commander Nadine Ross in Uncharted 4 that the character got her own spin-off title in this year’s buddy  adventure Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

Here’s the thing about the trailer though: it’s absolutely brutal. There’s hatchets going into faces, people’s arms being broken with tomahawks and no cutting away. It’s a lot to take in over breakfast so fair warning on that front. If that doesn’t worry you, good news, you can also have it 4K if you’re so inclined.

The Last of Us Part II remains firmly in the realm of When It’s Done in terms of release dates. It is a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
