Steam has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated Steam Deck is coming to Australia. At PAX Australia, the company confirmed that it will begin selling the PC handheld device locally starting next month. Currently, the only way to get one is to pay some heavy import fees or pay double, sometimes triple from an unauthorised seller. Steam’s website was updated after the surprise announcement that says “Your games, down under November 2024” alongside the official announcement “We are excited to announce that Steam Deck is coming to Australia in November 2024,” it confirmed. No pre-orders will be available, and Valve said the device would ship “immediately” once it is launched.
Steam have confirmed that both OLED and LCD versions will be sold in Australia, with the pricing guide below :
- Steam Deck LCD (256GB) – $649 AUD
- Steam Deck OLED (512GB) – $899 AUD
- Steam Deck OLED (1TB) – $1,049 AUD
The OLED was released last year offering a bigger screen, better battery life, improved haptics with the OLED screen offering thinner bezels, faster frame rates and native support for HDR.
We got hands-on with the Steam Deck at PAX Australia and can confirm it is the lightest and most comfortable of the PC handhelds on the current market. We got to play Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring and both ran perfectly with no issues, had some great haptic feedback through the controllers and sat perfectly in the hand for extended game sessions.
While there is no current release date, you can currently wishlist the Steam Deck on your Steam account here.
