The game detectives are at it again. In a post over at The Silph Road Pokemon fan site, a deep dive into the code of the latest version of Pokemon GO has revealed that the recently-released Ditto was not the only monster added to the game. Indeed, as many as 100 monsters from the Generation 2 era have been added to the game behind the scenes — but you can’t catch them just yet.
According to The Silph Road, the Gen 2 monsters currently exist in a limbo state. They have no movesets and would require the pushing of both a server- and client-side software update in order to be made available.
The Pokemon in question continue directly on from the Generation 1 Pokedex, beginning at #152, Chikorita, and running through to #252, Celebi. The data-mining also reveals that 52 new families of Pokemon are now in the game, including legendaries like Ho-Oh and Lugia.
Good news all-round for Pokemaniacs, particularly those who’ve run their 3DS’ down on the bus and now need something else to occupy their time. Given the rapidity of Pokemon GO updates from Niantic of late, hopefully fans won’t be waiting too long before they can get their hands on these now-classic monsters.
