For a generation of kids in the 90’s, the act of going to the movies demanded that certain rituals be observed: You would call ahead and listen to the voicemail read out the session times. Choc top ice creams needed to be purchased and consumed before the trailers began (this remains true today). Finally, a bare minimum of two dollars had to be spent on the sweet Daytona USA cabinet in the arcade next to the theatre. SEGA looks set to revive this experience with the announcement of a brand new Daytona title bound for arcades.
The news of the new title was confirmed by Sega’s arcade and amusements division via their Twitter account. The new game will mark the first time Sega have released a new game in the series of racers since Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge back in 1998.
According to Sega, we’ll get our first look at the new game in two weeks at the IAAPA Attractions Expo in Florida, which takes place in Orlando on November 14-18. Sega teased their presence at the show, and that of the new game, with (of all things) a GIF image hosted on Giphy which you can see embedded below.
We’ll find out what the new game looks like soon. For now, let’s all take a moment to remember the game that would reach out to us from the arcade and beckon us over with its siren song.
