Love it or hate it, your current Xbox One user interface is going away tomorrow. It’s being replaced with the Windows 10-inspired New Xbox One Experience, notable for the introduction of Xbox 360 backwards compatibility.
The update will launch here in Aus sometime tomorrow, November 13, bringing sweeping stylistic and cosmetic changes, a few new features and the aforementioned backwards compatibility.
Here’s the thing, though. Those of you who’ve been waiting to fire up their old 360 games again should be aware that backwards compatibility won’t become active until around 12 hours after the update starts rolling out to consoles around the world.
If you’ve got your system set to the “instant on” power mode, your Xbox One will download the update automatically while in standby mode and will have it ready to install for you the next time you turn your console on. If you (like me) swtiched that mode off to save on your power bill, you’ll need to head into the System tile and check for an update (though it will likely bring up a prompt when you power on).
RIP Xbox One Interface 2013 – 2015. You confused the hell out of us all.
