6 tours you need to see in Australia this December: From Jamie XX to Jack White

The silly season has already started. With work winding down, Christmas parties loading up, and all those Xmas lights starting to sparkle, it’s beginning to look a lot like freedom.

No doubt you’ll be planning an epic December to let loose from a chaotic 2024. We’re willing to bet that live music is a big part of that, so let us remind you of a few highlight tours heading down under next month, with tickets still available.

Jamie XX

Jamie XX has alchemised some of dance music’s most memorable tracks over the past decade, so you best believe he’ll be bringing the heat when he pops on down to Australia for a few shows across the country. Most notably, he’ll be playing at Sydney’s Carriageworks for what should easily be the EDM show of the year.

The dependable team at Astral People will take him around the country for a few shows staggered around his set at Meredith Music Festival. Take note of the dates below.

Wed, Dec 4th – PICA, Melbourne
Thurs, Dec 5th – PICA, Melbourne
Sat, Dec 7th – Meredith Music Festival, Meredith
Sunday, Dec 8th – Carriageworks, Sydney
Monday, Dec 9th – Carriageworks, Sydney
Friday, Dec 13th – Hotel Brunswick, Brunswick Heads

Jack White

The legendary Jack White hasn’t been down in Australia for a good year, so early December will be the perfect time to catch his masterful brand of blues-inflected rock and, hopefully, a few The White Stripes tunes as well. The “No Name” tour will be an interesting one; tickets go on sale just weeks before the man starts touring, which will take him to all the major capitals and a few regional towns like Ballarat. And yes, he’s even coming to Hobart this time.

Thurs, Dec 5th – The Fortitude Music Hall, Brisbane
Fri, Dec 6th – Civic Hall, Ballarat
Sat, Dec 7th – Corner Hotel, Melbourne
Mon, Dec 9th – Forum Melbourne, Melbourne
Tues, Dec 10th – Forum Melbourne, Melbourne
Wed, Dec 11th, Odeon Theatre, Hobart
Fri, Dec 13th – Enmore Theatre, Sydney
Sat, Dec 14th – Enmore Theatre, Sydney

The Killers

Ready to belt out “Mr Brightside” along with tens of thousands of people. It may be a cliche by now, but gosh it feels good jumping around and singing at the top of your lungs to one of the most iconic indie-rock bands in history. The Killers are certainly no strangers to Australia, but Brandon Flowers and his band of merry music makers are always welcome with such open arms. It’s a testament to how deeply immersive and exciting their live shows are.

But it’s a bit different this time. The Killers will perform their classic Hot Fuss in full at some shows, and then their new greatest hits album at others. Pick your poison, grab your ticket, and make sure your lungs are ready to rock.

Sat, Nov 30th – Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Townsville
Fri, Dec 6th – Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney
Sat, Dec 7th – Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney

Zapp

One of the most seminal funk bands in history is heading on down to Australia for, to my knowledge, the first time ever. Zapp have always brought that super high-energy with their songs, sizzling since the 1970s with hits like “I Wanna Be Your Man” and “Computer Love” with a close association with voice box king Roger Troutman. Without their music, we wouldn’t have full-tilt hip hop classics like Notorious B.I.G’s “Goin’ Back To Cali”, Ice Cube’s “Friday” and Jay-Z’s “Your Love”.

Fri, Dec 6th – City Recital Hall, Sydney
Sat, Dec 7th – Meredith Music Festival
Mon, Dec 9th – Northcote Theatre, Melbourne

Ski Mask (the Slump God)

He may have shortened his name, but don’t think Ski Mask has watered down the incredibly diverse brand of full-tilt, chaotic hip hop that made his famous all those years ago. Truth be told, this outrageously versatile emcee is so popular he could have easily landed in a Hordern Pavilion show, but the fact that he’s in a relatively tiny venue like Sydney’s the Metro Theatre on this tour makes these new Australian shows all the more essential. Get ready to mosh because this ones going to be fun.

Thur, Nov 28th – Metro City, Perth
Sat, Nov 30th – Festival Hall, Melbourne
Sun, Dec 1st – The Fortitude Music Hall, Brisbane
Turs, Dec 3rd – The Metro Theatre, Sydney
Fri, Dec 4th – The Metro Theatre, Sydney

Crowded House

The holidays are coming up, which means you’re almost bound to be roped into sing-a-longs to the likes of Paul Kelly, John Farnham, and these guys, Crowded House. Over the years, Crowded House has given us songs so beloved and iconic that Australia has always tried to claim them for their own. But the Kiwis have carved out their own identity, endearing throughout the ages with songs like “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and “Something So Strange”. You’ll know every hit they belt out so if you feel like some good old nostalgia, this is the one.

Fri, Nov 29th – Kings Park, Perth
Sat, Nov 30th – Kings Park, Perth
Sun, Dec 1st – Kings Park, Perth
Wed, Dec 4th – Sydney Opera House Forecourt, Sydney
