On Saturday 24 September, Abby Dobson will headline an evening of internationally renowned musicians united to aid cancer research. The Thornbury Theatre will come alive as Dobson, former lead singer of acclaimed Australian band Leonardo’s Bride, performs sets alongside Bernadette Carroll, Mandy Wragg, Amanda Grafanakis, Sally Chatfield, Ben Jackson and Neva2L8 as part of A Night to Remember. Proudly supported by the Australian Cancer Research Foundation, like its namesake, this evening will certainly be a night to remember.
Dobson, who is due to launch a solo album in the coming months, has a personal motivation for signing onto A Night to Remember. “One of my closest friends died two years ago from cancer,” says Dobson, who herself has also had a close call with the disease. “Right now there are three people in my life who are battling cancer. We’ve all been affected either directly or indirectly by disease.”
Presenter of A Night to Remember, Deb Herbert, likewise echoes Dobson’s sentiments: “This event is for people to remember those they have lost to cancer or those who have survived, and it is to help in finding a cure by hopefully raising a lot of money for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.”
All proceeds from A Night to Remember will be donated to The Australian Cancer Research Foundation. “I hope this event brings people together who do not normally come together,” adds Dobson. “I hope people will be moved and uplifted and inspired and healed by the music we make. And I hope we raise a shit load of money that can be used directly for research into this devastating disease.”
