It’s been a hell crazy couple of weeks for Adelaide indie band CITY RIOTS…and it just got a whole lot crazier!!
City Riots have been handpicked by Billy Corgan to support the SMASHING PUMPKINS on their upcoming national Australian tour in October! Yes, the Smashing Pumpkins, the same band that City Riots producer Bjorn Thorsrud (Dandy Warhols, everything Billy Corgan) has been working with since 1998! Only announced last week, the iconic alternative rock superstars (that’s Smashing Pumpkins, not City Riots yet) will tour every major Australian cities including City Riots’ home town Adelaide!
The guys in City Riots will be joining the Pumpkins tour in season best form after playing their own six date national tour, ex Perth. The City Riots tour began with a packed showcase gig at Brisbane’s Big Sound last week and includes dual headline performances with Perth up and comers The Chemist and crashes through the gates at the end of September with a festival performance at Coaster on the NSW central coast.
This tour almost never happened though, as just two weeks ago lead singer Ricky Kradolfer was held at knife point in the local post office in suburban Adelaide. At that point in time, the good times—like recording their debut album in Chicago, their upcoming trip to the US for FILTER Magazine’s music festival, the CMJ showcase or the impending slot at Open Arms—seemed like light years away.
Attempting to cram a life in between a hectic two year to-and-fro touring schedule between Europe, America and Australia, touring and recording incessantly hasn’t been easy…though for City Riots it just got a whole lot more fun!
