Album Release News Weekly: Friday the 13th January 2012

Welcome to our new weekly news feature where we round up the latest news in the world of album release dates. We’ll be pounding through dozens of news pieces from the last few weeks, so let’s get moving! Unless otherwise mentioned, all release dates apply to Australia only.

OF MONTREAL

Of Montreal will be releasing their new record Paralytic Stalks on February 10th, on Polyvinyl via Shock Records. You can get a taste of what to expect from the album in a preview posted below.

SLEIGH BELLS

Upon unleashing Treats into the world, Sleigh Bells quickly became the most exciting new band to emerge from their hometown of New York City, while their live shows are already something of legend. DIRTY THREE

Dirty Three will release their new album Toward The Low Sun on 24 February 2012 via Anchor & Hope / Remote Control. It’s their first record since 2005, was produced by Casey Rice and Dirty Three, was recorded in Melbourne at Head Gap studios and was mixed at Sing Sing.

THE DECEMBERISTS

The Decemberists have announced the March 9 release of We All Raise Our Voices To The Air (Live Songs 04.11-08.11), a 20-track live double-album (and triple-vinyl set) culled from the band’s 2011 tour supporting their chart-topping, Grammy-nominated album The King Is Dead. With songs spanning their entire first decade as a band—from their debut EP 5 Songs through each of their six LP’s— We All Raise Our Voices To The Air is the first-ever live album from one of our favourite bands here at the AU review.

ANDREW BIRD (UK RELEASE INFORMATION)

Andrew Bird’s much-anticipated twelfth album, Break It Yourself, is due on Monday 5th March on Bella Union, and the tracklist and album artwork have been announced, as below… Produced by Bird, the album was recorded at his barn in Western Illinois near the banks of the Mississippi River.

SILVERSTEIN

Hopeless Records recording artists, Silverstein recently announced the release of Short Songs; the 22-track follow-up to their critically acclaimed album, Rescue, which will be released in Australia and New Zealand February 10 via UNFD.

BLACK DICE

Ribbon Music (an imprint of EMI) have announced that the new full-length album from Black Dice, Mr. Impossible, will be released on April 6 in Australia. The New York based trio of Eric Copeland, Bjorn Copeland, and Aaron Warren have been kicking it for over 15 years. The new track “Pigs” is below.

RODRIGO Y GABRIELA

Mexican acoustic rock duo Rodrigo y Gabriela will release their new album on 20th January 2012. Entitled Area 52, the album is their first recorded collaboration with another group of musicians; a thirteen piece Cuban orchestra composed of some of Havana’s finest young players, collectively known as the C.U.B.A. Trailer for the new record is below.

EMELI SANDÉ

Emeli Sandé‘s Our Version of Events will be out February 10th. As a published writer she’s written hit singles for Chipmunk (Diamond Rings) and Wiley (Never Be Your Woman) and album tracks for Cheryl Cole, Susan Boyle and Tinie Tempah, and is now debuting her own material with her first full length record.

CHIMES OF FREEDOM: THE SONGS OF BOB DYLAN

Chimes of Freedom – featuring 75 Newly Recorded Bob Dylan Songs by Over 80 Artists – has been scheduled for a February 3rd release in Australia. Produced for Amnesty International, the MASSIVE track listing for Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honouring 50 Years of Amnesty International can be found HERE.

PETER BRODERICK

Following numerous film scores and collaborative projects, Peter Broderick has completed the long-awaited follow-up to Home, his critically-acclaimed debut. Entitled http://www.itstartshear.com/, the record is due for release on Monday 20th February 2012. Yes, the title of the record is also a link to a website where you can hear the music.

THE BLANK FIGHT (US RELEASE DETAILS)

Silver Sprocket Bicycle Club have announced that they will be re-issuing the first (and only!) LP from Pensacola, FL’s now defunct The Blank Fight, on February 28th. Titled House Band Feud, the LP has been newly remastered for vinyl by John Golden and includes every song the band ever recorded including tracks left off the now out-of-print CD version from Plan-it-X Records.

Limited to 500 copies on clear vinyl, each copy includes an MP3 download code and the original zine from member Aaron Cometbus, which has been expanded to 20 pages including never-before released artwork and liner notes. OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS IN BRIEF:

– Dutch symphonic rock outfit, Delain, will release We Are The Others early 2012 on Roadrunner Records.
– Roadrunner will also be releasing Soulfly‘s eighth record, Enslaved, on March 9th.
Future Of The Left have finished recording The Plot Against Common Sense, their new record, and the 15 song track listing has also been anounced. All the details here: http://www.futureoftheleft.net/
– Unclassifiable musician-singer- rapper Gonjasufi is due to release a new mini-album MU.ZZ.LE this coming 27 January on Warp through Inertia.
Paul McCartney has announced Kisses On The Bottom, Paul’s tribute to personal favourites and two new self penned compositions, which will be released on February 3rd. More details HERE.
Lana Del Ray will release her debut, Born To Die in Australia on 3 February, ahead of her brief SOLD OUT tour.
